At the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio, the international community adopted Agenda 21, an unprecedented global plan of action for sustainable development. Ten years later, the United Nations Johannesburg Summit presents an exciting opportunity for today's leaders to adopt concrete steps and identify quantifiable targets for better implementing Agenda 21.

A Convocation: Understanding & Restoring Ecosystems is the theme of Society for Ecological Restoration or SER's joint Annual Conference with the Ecological Society of America, 4-9 August 2002 in Tucson, Arizona, with E.O. Wilson as the keynote speaker. SER's Call for Abstracts will be mailed in December and due 31 Mar 2002. If you're not a member and wish to be put on their outreach list contact julie@ser.org.

JULY 22 to 24, 2002
PLEA2002 - Design for the Environment. International Conference on Passive and Low Energy Architecture. The 19th PLEA conference in Toulouse will contribute to establish "design with the environment" as a mandatory condition for urban and architectural quality. Any good quality paper related to the PLEA mission will be acceptable.

JUNE 05 to 08, 2002
ECOLOGY 2002 ISTANBUL - International Fair of Ecology and Environment Technologies which will be organized on 05-08 June 2002, by one of the biggest fair companies of Turkey, with the support of World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Association for Protecting Wildlife will be a meeting point for the “friends of environment and nature”.

MARCH 30 to APRIL 5, 2002
The Findhorn Foundation and Trees for Life are convening an international conference called Restore the Earth! during Easter Week, March 30th — April 5th, 2002. The conference will highlight the inspiring and innovative Restore the Earth project. Events will include an emphasis on engaging heart, mind and soul by interweaving art, music, storytelling and practical work.

JANUARY 15, 2002
Final date for application to The Garden Club of America's competition for a Fellowship in Ecological Restoration that will be awarded to an exceptional graduate student to assist with study and research. The winning applicant will receive $8,000 to support specialized study in ecological restoration at a leading accredited university in the United States. The University of Wisconsin-Madison Arboretum will administer the fellowship.
